lucy's little nook questions answered

i have received questions about lu's little nook, so i decided to just answer them all at once!

here are the items on her wall. all purchased at goodwill.

now that i look at this little plaque, i think it's kinda cute. vintage. i would have left it like it was if i could go back. ha!

anyway i just took paper and cut it to the correct size.

i covered the plaque with mod podge, placed the paper on top, and mod podged a top coat.

i really wanted an oval picture frame for her wall and this one was the perfect size.

i just removed the old picture and glass.

i spray painted it using krylon spray paint in ballet slipper.

this is my very favorite little girl pink color. they sell it at wal-mart.

then i filled the frame with this print from dazeychic on etsy.
she has the cutest pictures. check out her you dropped from heaven print.
it comes in little girl or boy. so cute!

the picture was square and wouldn't fit in my frame, so i just made a matte using green polka dot scrap booking paper.

for the dresser i used rustoleum spray paint in candy pink.

i actually wanted to your the krylon in ballet slipper to match the frame, but i misplaced it, so i had to go with the rustoleum from home depot. it isn't that much different. i just like the paler pink better.

the bunny i made for lucy is made from this pattern. i made it without the bib and skirt. the pattern is in my etsy shop if you want to check it out.
i made lucy hers for easter last year.

the size of the bed is toddler. we just moved her crib mattress right over.
someone asked how much the wood cost. i don't remember.
i do remember my brother giving me the top of not buying wood at home depot though.
he said it is way cheaper to go to a lumber store.

so there you have it. now get your hineys to goodwill, home depot, or the a lumber store!

lucy's little nook

last summer we moved lucy out of her crib and in with trey so they could share a room.
she needed a bed...

i couldn't find one that i liked, and i didn't want to spend a ton of money one.
so i did the only thing i could, headed to home depot and bought some wood and paint.
when my husband got home from work i was unloading the wood out my car.
i gave him a "i really hope you are in a good mood and will jump on board with me on this" kind of look. he see's that look more than he wants.

"so what are you up to now?" he asks.

"will you help me make a bed for lucy?" i say with hopeful eyes.

when i can get my husband on board, i know the project will be finished within a couple of hours. he is a maniac when it comes to getting things done he puts his mind to.
i haven't quite figured out how to get his mind on doing the dishes but whatever.

he said "sure" with a smile and i knew we would have a bed by dark.

my husband sanded and cut, while the kids and i painted.
it has been finished for awhile, but i kept wanting to do more with my lu's little nook. i just got tired of waiting so here is the finished product!

the canopy is from ikea. it hung over her crib ever since she was a baby so we just moved it on over.

remember this night stand?
see the before and after here.
i got it right off the front porch of trey's old preschool teacher.
it had been sitting there for months when i finally couldn't stand it anymore and asked her what she was going to do with it.

her bed and night stand just happened to fit perfectly in this nook.
we are talking by about 1/4 of an inch!

i had this shade of green in mind for her bed.
when i saw it, it sang to me and i knew it was perfect.

i think i may have jumped up and down a bit while standing by the paint wall choosing my paint card. no one can really know for sure...except for maybe the paint guy behind the counter.

i like to call it "cottage green"
but it is really just called "garden spot" by behr.

she loves her little bed. she sits on her bed with her friends and they close the canopy while reading books or doing each others hair.

all these items are from goodwill. i just repainted them.
except for the bunny. i made that myself.

uhh is that picture crooked. oh well.

so my friend kelly is having a baby

my husband see's me making the cupcakes for her baby shower...

husband :"uh is kelly ok with you putting a pregnant picture of her on her cupcakes?"

me: "that's what she gets for letting me help with her shower."

husband: "actually i think she will really like it!"

me: "ok good, i was acting confident, but actually getting kinda worried she would wanna kill me."

like it she did!
kelly and i go wayyyy back to middle school.

i used to call her "smelly butman" short for kelly putman :o)
she would shoot back with calling me "manya" which I totally HATED!

we are so much more grown up than that now :o)

thanks for letting me help with your baby shower!
can't wait to see that sweet little babe.

i already have ideas for baby #3 so you better watch your back :o)

two girls after my own heart

yesterday morning i received an etsy conversation asking about a "Bubble Skirt Limited Production License." it was for a girl who wanted to make bubble skirts from my pattern and sell them in her shop.

she bought it from my shop and with in a couple of hours i get this email:

"I got it - thanks! I already made one for my daughter which is now in my shop in case someone else wants one too =) It was so easy. If you need any pattern testers in the future, let me know!"

Thank you again,
Leigh Ann

i couldn't believe it! she was so fast!
her etsy shop is called "The Dixie Pixie" and she is selling the bubble skirts there! she is also fairly new to sewing.

here is the skirt she came up with!

the bubble skirt pattern is reversible, here is the other side.
too cute! i love the cherries and she added a bow.
Leigh Ann you did an amazing job!

go check out her shop! she is so sweet! she left me this comment in my etsy shop:

"Great tutorial and so easy to understand. Awesome seller and I can't wait to get started on bubble skirts!"

also i received a comment last week saying this:

"Check out my blog to see cute pics of the headbands I made with your awesome tutorial!!" i checked it out and was in love with what she came up with!

check her out at The Adventure of Chasey and Cash Blog

if there is anyone else out there who has been making the rosette headbands or bubble skirts i would love to see what you have come up with!

the night of all the bad pictures

i never make it to the mall.
i love the mall.
the kids (trey) hate shopping.
so a lot of my shopping comes from stores like Target, where there is a kids toy aisle.
i picked up this sweatshirt the other day.
green is my favorite color.
i loved the aged look of the fabric and the cream ties.
so i brought it home (after paying for it of course)...

i realize it is just a sweatshirt.
but i wanted to be cute in my sweatshirt.
it needed something.

out to my fabric bin i went.
i found this knit green fabric that was perfect.
i cut long thin strips of it.

sewed a long basting stitch down the middle
(stitch length 4, width 0)

pulled one thread and gathered the fabric.

pinned it to the sweater

stitched that baby down...and repeated till i had four ruffles.
two on each side.

i just love how it turned out!
then i tried to take a picture of it to share with all of you.
this is where it gets ugly.
i took so many pictures and couldn't get ONE stinkin' good one.
you can kind of get the picture though can't you?
humor me...

this one is ok too

then i remembered these super cute earrings that i made.
"these earring have to be shared with my bloggin friends, i'll snap a picture of the earrings and the sweater all at once i thought."
ummm no can't see the earrings or the sweater.
seriously i cannot take a picture of myself! some of the pictures i wasn't even in!

if only i had a facebook or myspace account maybe i would have had more practice at this :o)

there we go a picture of my crooked earring and my messy desk....
awesome

when cropped and zoomed you can kinda tell just how cute these earring are right???

(to make these earrings go to my tutorial here
then get the supplies you need here)

maybe you need to add ruffles to something!?

so um yeah...if you never read my blog again i totally understand :o)

that home

remember growing up how there was always "that home" where everyone wanted to go hangout?
when i started having kids i realized how much i wanted my home to be "that home."

here is my house today...

so far so good!

should i be worried that it feels so right to me to have so many kids in my house all at once?

New in my Etsy shop

i have not had so much fun making something in a long time.
i have seen little bubble skirts around, but wasn't exactly sure how to make one.
so i went to work...

i got it right on the first try!
i was worried that it would be hard...but it was SO EASY to make!
i took a lot of time to take good photo's for the step-by-step tutorial that comes with the pattern.
beginning sewers you can make this skirt!

i giggled with excitement when it was finished!
(yes i made that headband with my rosette headband tutorial that is for sale in my etsy shop)

lucy has worn this skirt 2 days in a row i will have to admit :o)
it is reversible, so she likes to take her time deciding which side she will wear.

here is one side...

here is the other...

it has the perfect amount of bubble to it!
i can hardly stand it!

the pattern is in my etsy shop today.
thank you everyone for your kind words and support.
they keep me pressing forward on this crazy blog!

for all you sewers and even you beginners i want to give away 2 free patterns!

leave a comment letting me know you are all over it :o)
i'll choose 2 winners randomly next week.
*winners email me your email address and i will email the pattern and step-by-step tutorial.

more fun things to come next week!
see you then!
