scootin' along

While my sister-in-law Margo and I were in Thailand we decided to rent a scooter. It was just $3.00 a day and $3.00 to her up with gas. So we figured it was a pretty good deal and would be way too much fun!

The first couple of days Margo wouldn't let me drive the scooter. The traffic was wild there so I didn't really protest. Plus they drive on the wrong side of the street, so I had to kinda get used to that first.

After a couple of days I reminded her that I had grown up riding dirt bikes with my dad.

She said "ok I'll watch you practice on the side streets and we'll see how you do."

Here I am on my maiden voyage of scooter riding in Thailand.

She totally made fun of how I got all hunched over and sped off like I was riding a dirt bike ha ha!

Then she made fun of me again when I came back, on how I stuck my foot out when I turned.

"ok seriously you are embarrassing me...this is a scooter not a dirt bike Tanya."

She was satisfied with what she saw, and hopped on the back, and we were off. This was by far the thing I had the most fun doing in Thailand. Waking up, hoppin on the scooter, and heading out on another adventure.

I was a little nervous about posting these videos because the sound is not working on my computer at the moment...so I am not sure what I am saying in any of these videos. I'll apologize in advance for anything stupid that I say.

4th of July Bandana Dress

I recently just got into contact again with an old friend.
She wrote me an email reminding me of a road trip we took in our college days from Rexburg, Idaho all the way to Salem, Oregon to see our old boyfriends. It's a 12 hour drive. Wouldn't have been too bad except for the fact that we left at midnight.
Good heavens what were we thinking.
She made a 4th of July bandana dress for her daughter.
Laurie it turned out so great!
Everyone hurry get to the craft store for some blue bandanas and red ribbon.
Your daughter needs to look this adorable on the 4th of July!

i took my camera to thailand

thailand/part1

i get emails pretty often asking what kind of camera i have. its a nikon d40.
i got it a year ago and i have had a blast learning about photography and snapping away with it. get one and you won't regret it.

k, now that that's out of the way i want to talk about thailand. my sister-in-law margo spent 18 months in thailand on a church mission. she learned the language and has been back many times since her mission for work, and just for fun.

a few years ago i told her "margo if i am ever not pregnant or i don't have a little baby, when you go to thailand i would love to go with you."

well at the beginning of May she told me she was going. no baby...no prego...we booked tickets and 3 weeks later we were in thailand.

oh my did we have fun together. so many hilarious things happened while we were there.
at night, in our hotel we would giggle ourselves to sleep talking about the events that happened that day.

we giggled about the cockroach that i saw in our room. she heard me talking to it when i went over to the mirror to put on my make-up, "ok mr. cockroach, i am a really nice girl and i don't want to hurt you. i just need to put on some makeup so i don't scare these nice people in thailand."

she laughed at me when i screamed and ran to the other part of the room to escape from the lizard/salamander that was crawling up our wall next to my open suitcase.

we can now laugh about the car wreck we were in with our not so sober cab driver. but we weren't laughing then when we were in rush hour traffic and had to jump out of the crashed taxi and make a run for it.

i really enjoyed the beauty of thailand. there are so many gorgeous flowers.
it was incredible!

these are thai monks. we saw these nice men at the grand palace in bangkok. they were these orange robes everywhere they go.
they were very nice to let me take a picture with them. but i had to be sure not to touch them. that is a big no no.

i thought these little statues were so adorable.
just look how cute that little guy is.

bless this thai man. he had a little stand right outside our hotel in chiang mai. he whipped us up some very yummy food every morning while we were there.
i wonder if i could have convinced him to come back with me.

thailand part 2. coming soon!

I'm Back...

and I have plenty of pictures to show you!

But for those of you who think you might die from lack of creative ideas on my blog, here's one for ya.

Here I am at a fabric shop in Thailand.

I refrained from spending our entire savings at this store.

I came away with 2 yards of the cutest apple print, and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it...

make the sweetest little tablecloth for my table.
I plan on making many more of these because they are so darn easy.

You will have to measure your table and buy your fabric bigger than your table.
My fabric was 54 inches wide and 2 yards long.

Iron the edges of the fabric over a little more 1/4 of an inch

then fold over once more and iron again

after you have finished ironing one side go to the next

when you get to a corner just fold one side on top of the other.

the corner will look like this.

then just sew the entire way around the table cloth about 1/4''.

Here is a tip. Most fabrics you buy at the fabric store are about 45 inches wide which is to skinny for most tables.

If you use home decoration fabric it is usually wider and a heavier weight which is good for a table cloth.

Here are some ideas for fabrics that you could use.
I love these from Amy Butler.

Ikea is also a great place to get fabric. It is usually nice and wide and they have great prices!!!

Happy sewing!
