code blue & Sweet Nightingale

"Code blue, code blue, can I get everyone to the turbine hall. We are looking for a 4 year old boy with bright red hair." I was doing everything I could not to cry. "I'll go help look," I told her. "No stay here with me, it will be better if you can be there when they find him."

He was running right in front of me, not even that far ahead. It it is spring break here. We go to OMSI (oregon museum of science and industry) all the time, I have never seen SO many people here. It was like he disappeared out of nowhere. My friend Pam who was visiting from Boise said "here I'll take Lucy you go look for him." I looked everywhere! I ran to all his favorite places to play, I knew I needed help. I headed to the front desk. "I lost my son," I said trying to act calm. She took me to a manager who got on the walkie talkie and called the code blue.

I felt so helpless. It was the most terrible feeling. "I have a red haired boy here," I heard a ladies voice say through the radio. "I think they found him," the woman with the walkie talkie told me. I waited, hoping it would be him who she walked through the door with. The tears came and I couldn't stop them, when I saw my little Trey boy walk through the door. I ran scooped him up and held him tight. He looked very confused. I don't know if he even knew he was lost.

It was definitely his red hair that made the search go so quickly. If I would have said I had lost my 4 year old brown haired boy it would have taken a lot longer, and I bet they would have had to bring in a number of kids that weren't even mine, till we found him.

I hugged him tightly all day. As we drove home I reached back and he held my hand most of the way home. My husband has been out of town the last few days, so the kids and I slept on our big blow up mattress together that night. Trey and Lucy were snuggled up right next to me.

I usually tell them a few stories about little made up adventures with them as the characters, and then end with a song. This does the trick, and Trey especially falls right to sleep. I was singing that song from Cinderella "oh sing sweet nightingale, sing sweet nightingale, sing sweet....nightingale," when I noticed Lucy started singing it too. She wrapped her little arm around my neck and sang it in her sweet little voice till she fell asleep. It was priceless.

give me a heart attack!

We took Trey (our 4 year old) a couple of months ago snowboarding for the 1st time. While we were there I was noticing a difference between Trey and the other kids. I realized what it was...every other kid had on a helmet and Trey didn't. We had just rented his equipment and just didn't think to get him one. What were we thinking?!

So we took Trey down and bought him a helmet and his own snowboard just his size.
We put it up high in our house where he could see it, but he couldn't get it down until he had done enough chores for him to earn it.

Travis took Trey last week snowboarding and the girls stayed home. I threatened Travis with his life that he better bring Trey back exactly as he left me. He took our little cannon PowerShot and took these videos.

I freaked out when I saw them. When I watched the first video I about had a heart attack at how fast he was going!
(bear with the first video...it takes awhile for him to finally decide to come down)

video video

This second video Travis just sends him down and watches him vanish out of sight! It's really hard for me to watch my first born son doing such dangerous things. Maybe if I stop feeding him he will stop growing up.

Thanks to all who commented! If you didn't win just get your little self down to JoAnns and get your crafting on!

lets talk hair clips. the very first tutorial i did was last year right about this time, about hair clips...and it wasn't very good :o)

let's see if i can redeem myself here.
here's a tutorial for my favorite kind of easy hair clips made with scrap booking brads.

here are some scrap booking brads. you've seen them. they have the two pointy ends that you can poke through paper and secure by opening the the ends.

here are some hair clips. i got these at target.

there are two kinds of flowers i like to use:
scrap booking flowers
(got these from Joann's)

&
the flowers that you can buy in the bunches.

did you know you can just give these little beauties a tug and they pop right off?!

stack your flowers on top of each other.

take your brad

and just push it right through the holes in the middle of the flowers.

turn your flower over and open up the ends to secure the brad.

now isn't that cute and wasn't that easy?!

for these goody clips i cute a piece of ribbon 3 3/8 inches long.
put some fabric glue

i like this kind.
(got it at Joann's....yes i keep them in business)

slide the ribbon glue side up into the clip.

close the clip.

place the ribbon glue side down onto the top of the clip.

pull it around...

all the way to the back of the clip.

hot clue your flower to the clip.

these are so much fun to make and very addicting. warning to husbands: if you see your wife reading this post immediately unplug her computer. she will stay up to midnight making these and will neglect the laundry, the house, the children, and maybe even you!

these make great gifts. lucy and i make these for her friends birthdays. we make these little holders by taking two pieces of card stock, gluing them together, and cutting vertical slits into the card stock with an exacto knife.

want these little sweethearts?
it's gonna cost you a comment :o) just leave a comment to let me know you're in. trey and lucy will pick a winner on saturday.

stay tuned because next i am going to show you how to make these little cuties.

jumping, forts, and special deliveries

lucy has been VERY sick

we made a 3 a.m. trip to the ER, and a trip to the doctors office a few days later. we have been cooped up for a week!

last night her fever was still so high after days and days.

we were really starting to get worried.

so we had a family prayer for her.

today this sweet pea is finally starting to feel a little better!

it is a beautiful "oregon spring is on it's way" day, but she isn't well enough to go out yet.

so opened every window to let the light in, and piled every blanket we had into her crib. blew up the blowup mattress and

jumped...

and jumped

lucy started to get winded and needed a hug from her big brother.

i think they have missed playing with each other this last week.

even in all her sickness she will still able to take her big brother downtown.

that a girl lulu.

the kids were tired after jumping. so we built forts, watched movies, and...

(we have made a lot of these this last week :o))

i made "special deliveries" to each of their forts.

they LOVE it when i bring them special deliveries.

popcorn and water (all lucy will eat).

welcome back lu!

i will miss all the cuddling, but am so relieved to see my happy smiley girl playing again.

the 15 minute dress

Winners have been chosen! This giveaway is closed.

OK
ladies are you ready for this!?

It's called a bandanna dress and Lucy looks so dang cute in it!

It's here, for you, just in time for Spring!

What, you don't believe me that it takes only 15 minutes!!??

Fine I'll show you...here's how you do it:

Go down and get yourself 2 bandannas and a spool of ribbon.
I got all of this at Joanns.

Lay the bandannas on top of each other, right sides together.

Each bandanna has some writing on it; make sure the writing is at the top of your dress.

Measure the width of your ribbon.
Mine was about an 1 1/2 inches.

Measure down from the top on the left side 6 inches plus the measurement of the width of the ribbon.
So I measured down on mine 6 + 1 1/2 = 7 1/2.

Place two pins at that measurement.
This is a good way to mark where you will stop sewing.
(This will make the armholes of the dress.)

Pin the rest of the way down to the bottom of the dress.

Now do the exact same to the right side of the dress.

Stitch all the way from the bottom of the dress to the 2 pins.

When you get to the pins stop and back stitch.

At the top of your dress you will have two open

At the top of your dress measure the width of the ribbon, fold down at that length, and pin all the way across the top.

(This is going to be the casing for your ribbon. There will be one on each side.)

Turn dress over and do the same to the other side of the dress.

Sew all the way across the top of the dress.

Do this on both sides.

Cut two lengths of ribbon about 40 inches long.

Singe the edges with a match so it doesn't fray.

Turn your dress right side out.
Secure a safety pin to the end of one of the ribbons.

Feed it through the casing all the way out the other side.

Do this with both ribbons in separate casings.

Gather the top of the dress together in the middle of the ribbon and tie bow on both sides.

Your little one can wear this as a dress when she is little and a shirt as she grows!

Win it! Leave a comment to let me know you are in. Trey and Lucy will pick a winner sometime this week.

How can you say no to 15 minutes?! You have to give this one a try!

here are some that i am debating on putting in my etsy shop. they turned out great and were so much fun to make.
