lace trim earrings

i just have to say that i have not had so much fun crafting in a long time!

i was in heaven making these earrings from lace trims.

<span class=

i was SO excited to try them on and see how they looked.

absolutely darling!
i just love them!

<span class=

all you need is:

a bunch of ribbons

lot's of different lace trims

a glue gun

<span class=

and these ball hook earrings

these are sterling silver and work so great for sensitive ears.

<span class=

1. cut out your lace trim

<span class=

2. take some pliers and open the ball on your earring. ( i have a tiny little set of 3 jewelry pliers i got at joanns for like $6. they work great!)

3. take the end of your pliers or a pin and make a hole in your lace trim where you will want your lace trim to hang from.

4. put your earring through the hole.

5. close your earring ball to secure the lace.

<span class=

make two bows out of your ribbon and hot glue them to your lace trim.

that's it!

<span class=

here are a bunch of lace trims that i cut out.

<span class=

then i tied a bunch of bows and matched them to trims i thought suited them best.
then went to town making them.

my husband thought i was upstairs cleaning.

but i was really going to town on these babies!

that's how i do it ladies.

i am sneaky.

<span class=

i took this lace trim...

<span class=

and turned it into these.

<span class=

this lace trim...

<span class=

and turned it into these!

it was so much fun!

<span class=

this red ribbon reminds me of a picnic.

it's one of my favorites.

<span class=

the black and white stripped ribbon and the small lace trim rosettes are a little too darling for me to handle!

<span class=

i thought i would try some black lace trim and was thrilled with how they turned out.

the white ribbon with the black edging fit pefectly with these earrings.

<span class=

the cream lace with the brown and cream ribbon are so pretty!

<span class=

these were the first ones i made, and i was so excited with how they turned out!

these dainty little earrings remind me if tiny doilies. i love how they hang on!

<span class=

do you think i have enough lace trim earrings!?

holy crap what is my husband going to say!!??

<span class=

make these earrings!

every time i do a project like this i get comments and emails asking if i will put some in my etsy shop and i just never do.

so this time i am actually going to give it a try.

i can't promise to restock them though...i will probably just sell them for a couple of days.

head over to my etsy shop if you have to have some of these earring.

homeschooling shyness

trey is often asked, "hey, how do you like kindergarten? how do you like your teacher." whenever this happens, i feel myself immediately become shy or ready to put up my walls of defense.

the truth about it is, that i am shy about homeschooling. i rarely ever talk about it to others. even to my own husband and close family. when you homeschool, people sometimes have issues with it. even friends who i see very often, and care about so much, won't ask how it is going and i don't bring it up.

i remember last summer when it was coming time for trey to enter kindergarten. i started educating myself on all my options for schooling. i went around to schools in our area.

in my heart i knew i would homeschool; i just didn't want to admit.

i slowly started to collect supplies. i purchased some desks and painted them, telling myself, and my husband that they would just be fun desks for the kids to play & draw.

i prayed, pondered, and worried about my decision. then in the end, i did what i always do (i am learning this about myself) i went with the option that wasn't easy, the one that would make me stretch, the one that followed my heart.

that was to homeschool.

i remember talking with one of my good friends on the phone after i had made the decision.

she asked if trey was getting ready to go off to school. i told her i had decided to homeschool and went into a long explanation of why. she stopped me in my tracks by saying "tanya you don't have to defend yourself. i think it's wonderful!"

i was so relieved. a true friend. i had always known she was...i just forget for a second.

believe me, i have heard the warnings about how weird my kids will be, about how they won't be able to function in society.

i have also heard homeschooling parents talking about how terrible it is to send your kids to public school. they will be ruined for life!

i don't know everything about all of that, and i really don't think they do either.

here's what i know for sure:

i love spending time with these kids

trey is reading

math comes so naturally to trey and somehow it makes perfect sense in his mind

he is a class clown

his amazingly creative

he loves spending time with me

he is a great teacher to his sister

and all of this i know from our little kindergarten classroom at home.

how could i possibly be ashamed of that?!

so from now on, i will try to be a little less shy about what i am doing that i am loving so much.

<span class=

trey and i have been going to the library while lucy is at preschool.

we brought this book home with us this week.

<span class=

it's a fingerprint drawing book.

<span class=

trey's favorites were the bats and skeletons of course!

<span class=

here is lucy trying out fingerprinting for the first time.

<span class=

she went straight for the yellow...

<span class=

and made it into a sun.

<span class=

trey made a fabulous witch.

<span class=

the owl was my favorite.

<span class=

homeschooling, public schooling, private schooling, whatever....do what works for you and your kids.

the hunger games

Have you read these books!?

If you haven't, get your little buns down to Costco, or Target, or wherever and get a copy.

<span class=

I have heard they are making a movie.
If any of you know anyone involved in the casting of this movie please send them my way.
Refer them to the picture below:

Me as Katniss :o)

<span class=

I have asked my husband for my very own hunting bow for Mother's Day.

If any of you are concerned about the fact that I had my 5 year old son take a photo of my with my brothers hunting bow pretending to be a character from a book...

just know I wanted to be a vampire after reading the Twilight series and no permanent damage seems to have been done as far as I can tell.

Silhouette & Script Necklace

Hey everybody!

Here is the tutorial for the Silhouette Necklace and the Script necklace.
Enjoy!

script necklace

silhouette necklace

(i just love wearing this one with lucy's silhouette!)

Here we go:

I stamped two pieces of card stock with a stamp with writing.

one of the stamped papers i left blank.

the other i printed a silhouette of my little lucy onto from my computer.
i used photoshop elements 7.0 to do this.
if you don't have photoshop, then you could always just cut out a profile photo, trace it onto black card stock, and glue it to the stamped paper.

then i took two glass gems, one for each piece of card stock, and traced them onto the card stock.

then i cut out the shapes about 1/8'' smaller than the shape i traced.

next i put a thin layer of diamond glaze on the flat side of the glass gem.

you could use mod podge if you don't have diamond glaze.

then place your piece of card stock onto the back of the gem.

wait about 5 minutes for the diamond glaze to dry, and then using a sponge brush coat the back of the card stock as well.

while that's drying...cut a piece of ribbon.

tie it into a small bow, and hot glue it to the front of your gem.

next, if you have a bail, glue it to the back of your gem with super glue.

this is my favorite shop on etsy for bails
tell her treyandlucy sent you and she will take great care of you!

if you don't that's ok.

just put a 1/2'' line of superglue onto the gem where you want your necklace to hang from.

place your ribbon wrong side down and glue it to the back of the gem.

hold it in place with a pencil tip for a few seconds, make sure to pull your ribbons up while it is gluing, this will make it hang nicely when you wear it.

and there you have it!

aren't these just so pretty!?

these were so fun and easy to make.

they would make great gifts!
