our thanksgiving

As we headed out the door yesterday all packed up and ready to spend the weekend at Grandma & Grandpas house, I noticed this sign taped to the door.

Trey had watched me tape sign to the door that said "garbage" so we wouldn't forget to set it by the curb on our way out.

He made this sign completely by himself !

He sounded out each word and it pulled at my little heart strings.

It says "I love Slimr."

Slimmer is our pet beta fish that we purchased about a month ago.
He made the sign so we wouldn't forget to feed him on our way out.

He even drew a picture of his fish bowel with little slimmer swimming around in it.
TOO CUTE!

We hit a lot of traffic on the way to Grandmas, but we finally made it!

a dish towel & a potholder

have you ever thought about what you could do with a...

dish towel
potholder
& ribbon?



how about make an easy sweet little apron?



these would make great gifts!



let's not forget about those boys. leave off the bow and you would have an apron for your little tiger.



here's how you do it:

with your hand towel folded in half pin you potholder to the top.



sew the potholder to the towel.



make a bow out of your ribbon and pin it to the potholder.



stitch the bow to the potholder.



pin two long pieces of ribbon in between the layers of dishtowel and sew.



next pin a piece of ribbon to the left side of the potholder.
make sure the ribbon is pinned to the back of the potholder.



next you'll need a way to attached the ribbon to the opposite side of the potholder.

you could use a snap or some Velcro. i chose a snap.
sew one snap to the back of the Velcro and the other to the ribbon.

make sure to measure where the snap should be by trying it on your little one.

i timed myself and this took about 20 minutes.
not too shabby!
give it a try!

a wall and a bench

in the 6 1/2 years that we have been a family we have moved 12 times!

my husband was always begging me to decorate but i have always felt like there was no point because we would just move.

so really i am new to this decorating thing, but i am really catching the decorating fever.

this was our dining room wall....L.A.M.E right!?

here is the after.
pretty much everything i got second hand. the cute little silver plate i got at goodwill for $1 and decided to hang it!



we recently got a table off of craigslist. i really wanted a bench for our table that the kids could sit in. every one i found was around $300! so i hit up craigslist and found this one being sold with a table, and made them an offer for just the bench. they took it, and this little beauty came home to me.



i can't take the credit for this bench though, because trey and my husband cleaned, primed, and spray painted for me!



don't you think it turn out lovely?

the kids love to sit on it! we can even fit three little ones on it when they have a friend over.



thank you craigslist and goodwill for once again coming through for me!



p.s. that black wooden box on the left is my garbage. my husband bought it for me years ago and i love it!

christmas star 2009

our 2009 Christmas star is finished and i couldn't wait to hang it in our home!

i used pictures from this past year, printed them out on card stock, and mod podged them on with the rest of the paper.

for the paper i used a K&Company Peppermint Twist Paper Pad.

They sell them at JoAnns for $14.99.

I couldn't find an example on their website but, I found a link here to show you what it would look like.

before i applied the top coat of mod podge, i made sure to write the year with a pen on one of the points of the star. i plan on making one each year.

now go get yourself a metal star, some paper, and some mod podge and make yourself one of these. they make great Christmas gifts as well!
