holy moly how cute is this star!?

my friend daisha requested a christmas craft idea, and i got to work. so daisha here you go! i am heading down to joanns tomorrow to buy a big red satin ribbon to hang it from!

you can buy these stars at most craft stores. i got this one at craft warehouse. you'll also need some scrap booking paper and some family pictures (the pictures are optional...you could just use the paper if you wanted.)

first you'll need to make a template for your pictures and paper. just place a piece of copy paper on top or your star and press all around the star so the paper creases where you want it to.

cut out your template

then cut your template into two pieces starting at the point.

use your template to trace your pieces onto your scrap booking paper...
(here is my sweet little craft slave hard at work)

and pictures. make sure you pay attention to the directions you want your pictures and scrap booking paper to lay.

i used a very little amount of tape to stick my pieces to my star as i went, to get an idea of how i wanted my pieces arranged. don't use a lot of tape or it won't come off the back of your paper and pictures without ripping it.

i thought the paper needed a little something....so i took some brown and black paint...mixed them together till i got the color i wanted...
(after this picture was taken lucy wanted to paint, and used pretty much the whole bottle of my brown paint, most of it got onto my table. love that girl.)

dab a paper towel into the paint...rub it onto a piece of tester paper till most of it has rubbed off...then rub it onto the edges of your paper.

mod podge oh how i love you

cover a point of the star with mod podge.

place your paper onto the point

cover with mod podge

i added the year to the end of a point so i wouldn't forget.

now go...craft

Way to go! That is so cute, and I am not sure I could replicate. What did we ever do in the world before Mod Podge came around? But you'd think they could think of a more normal name.

they are just those home decorating stars that you hang on your wall...you could check joanns or michaels...i have seen them at hallmark stores but they come in a big pack a lot of time. i got my star at craft warehouse which i don't think they have in seattle...i have heard they sell them at hobby lobby as well, but we won't have them here in the west...they have them online as well if you google tin home dec star or something...you may have to do some searching...sorry wendy

I love it. I've also seen one where they made a star for a teacher and used all the kid's pics on the star. The teacher hung it over her desk.

I linked over here from Just A Girl and this star is amazing! I had a quick question, did you use actual photos (on photo paper) or did you just print them out on regular paper? Thanks! Love this, you are very talented!

Tanya said...

Brandall-

I used acutal photo paper. You could also just print them out from your computer onto a heavier weight paper like a white cardstalk.

Steph said...

How did you print your pictures? Are they real pictures or just printed on your printer from home?

Tanya said...

Steph-

I printed them at home on my computer onto matte photo paper.

I came over from Tip Junky. I love all your ideas. I can't wait to try them!
