button hair clips with bows

i am sick i tell ya, sick! i have an obsession with buttons...

and i may not be able to control myself.

i saw these way cool hair clips and bobby pins on etsy...they have pads for gluing little treasures.

i thought how perfect for gluing buttons!

the etsy shop i used is closed for the summer.

but here is a store that i found that has good ratings and a good selection.

just take some super cute buttons...

(i bought these at joann's)

remove the shanks on the backs of the buttons with a button shanker.

use a hot glue gun to glue the buttons to the pad on the hair clip.

use a tiny tiny rubbon, tie a bow in it, cut the ends, and hot glue it to the top of the button.

lucy wore these yesterday to church.
she was a doll.

i am loving me some sailboats these days.

the sailboat buttons were made for boys i think...but add them to a pink clip and they are darling for a little girl.

these fish bowl buttons i have seen at almost every joann's.

lucy is in love with kitties.

i knew she would love these clips!

bows are always cute!

hold on to your glue guns ladies...

it's about time you made some

button hair clips with bows.

our week so far...

we were gone to my parents for the weekend.
we returned to find our first tadpole to turn into a frog.
he is the cutest little frog ever!

i told trey we could keep him for a little while longer.
hey trey boy need a little more sleep there buddy!?

i can't tell you have much fun it has been to watch these tadpoles change.
this little guy has already got his legs!

we can't stop watching them!

what have i been up to?
i found this broach at an antique store a few months ago.
i got it for less than a $1...

i have been wearing it in my hair.
i just pull a section of hair back with some bobby pins and pin it right in!

i have been wearing my button with bow earring pretty much everyday and have been getting tons of compliments!

my husband plays on a mens softball league.
we have been having fun hanging out with some of our very best friends there.
here is liam.

lucy and one of her best friends makenzie.

i think i need this many kids in my arms :o)

it hurts to be crafty/button earrings with bows

my two sister's were at my house last night.
we headed to joanns for a quick craft run.

when we got there we realized that ALL OF THE BUTTONS WERE 50% off!
they still are by the way.

we said a prayer of thanks :o) and proceeded to buy buttons to make button earrings.

Photobucket

we fell in love with so many buttons that had the two sewing holes (the ones without the shanks).
usually i wouldn't even consider buying these for earrings but they were too cute to pass up.

check out these beauties.
black lace buttons are you kidding me!?

Photobucket

we figured out a way to hide the holes.

put some super skinny ribbon through...

Photobucket

and tie a bow!

Photobucket

glue your post pad to the back with hot glue.

Photobucket

we could not get enough of them!

they turned out so darling!

i am wearing these right now.

Photobucket

here are all the button earrings i made with bows.

Photobucket

why it hurts to be crafty:

the party lasted until about 2:30 am.

we were tired and giggly.

Photobucket

we were using my button shank remover to remove the backs of the buttons with shanks.

the shanks were flying everywhere!

Photobucket

so my sister chelsea had this great idea to remove the shanks inside a plastic joann's bag so they wouldn't fly all over the place.

it seemed to be working fine until wham....

Photobucket

our youngest sister emily shrieked in pain.

a button shank had hit her right on the lip and given her a fat lip.

i told her to suck it up and to carry on when wham i get hit on the side of the head with a shank.

what the heck is going on we all wondered?!

Photobucket

we confiscated the bag my sister was using only to find dozens of tiny holes in it.

they shanks were breaking through the plastic bag!

we laughed and laughed and made my sister use a paper grocery bag which did the trick.

(you can see my sister here in the back ground thinking this is oh so funny. she never got hit with the shank. she was indeed the shank shooter.)

Photobucket

here are all the button earrings i made last night.

Photobucket

these sail boats needed me...

Photobucket

these lavender rosettes sang to me....

Photobucket

these ruby reds hopped right into my basket on their own...

Photobucket

i may just go find me a sailor and sail away with these anchors...
*note to husband...SAILOR and SALESMAN are not the same thing
Photobucket

these reminded me of my sister-in-law stephanie she may be getting them in the mail if she sends me her address...

Photobucket

i lost my big fake diamond earring a couple of weeks ago. we found these awesome diamond buttons were the perfect size and the cheapest and best fake diamond earrings i have ever owned.

love them!

Photobucket

you can buy the post pads for the earrings in packs like this at joanns.

i think they were $2.99 for a pack of 24 pairs.

30% off right now!

Photobucket

get your girls together and make these earrings.

if you need more instructions on making the button earrings you can go to this post i did awhile back.

how to catch a tadpole 101

First you need some experienced tadpole hunters:

meet lucy....she seems sweet doesn't she...when it comes to tadpole hunting she leaves no survivors.

Photobucket

trey boy...his skills with his dollar store net are unmatched.

Photobucket

my sister-in-law stephanie...she brings in the biggest baddest tadpoles around.

Photobucket

me...i wait quietly in the background waiting for one of my children to get distracted and set down their net...then i swoop down grab the net, and no tadpole is safe.

Photobucket

find yourself a murky muddy pond.

Photobucket

reach out as far as you can out into the pond and drag your net a long the bottom.

they like to hide out there.

Photobucket

pull your net mostly out of the water leaving the very bottom of the net immersed.

if you have a tadpole, you will see the little bugger splashing around in the bottom of the net.

Photobucket

scoop him out with your hand and drop him into a container filled with water scooped from the pond.

make sure when you are scooping up your water to get lots of good stuff from the bottom of the pond for the tadpole to live off.

Photobucket

lucy let her guard and was showing a little fear while we were hunting...she quickly gained her composure...

Photobucket

Photobucket

and got back to work.

Photobucket

we almost had to find a new team member in our hunting crew.

Photobucket

do not, and i repeat, do not hold your child by the back of the shirt and pants telling him that by doing this he will be able to "reach farther into the water and catch the biggest tadpole ever seen."

it could result in your child almost falling into the water and never trusting you again.

Photobucket

and now you know how to catch a tadpole!
we will wait and watch while these tadpole grow and turn back into frogs, and then release them back to this very pond.

remember as soon as your tadpoles start to get legs they will no longer be able to be under water at all times. we built a slope of gravel in our container so the tadpoles would have a place to rest as they grow.

HAPPY HUNTING!

Photobucket

thank you aunt stephanie for coming tadpole hunting with us today!

please come and visit us again soon!
